Video of man attacking breastfeeding mom at Target goes viral

Hearing the story of a mom being rudely attacked by a stranger for breastfeeding in public is not uncommon. However, Jessie Maher of Canton had support and defense rush to her side when it happened to her at Target last week. Maher caught most of the incident on video and you can bet man attacking breastfeeding mom footage went viral when she posted to Facebook.

Maher, a doula trained to support mothers, sat peacefully feeding her babe at the Target cafe when a man ordering food in line asked her to leave and began shouting profanities, calling her disgusting.

“I thought that I had to get this on tape because it just seemed so absurd that he was acting that way,” Maher said. “I wanted to, as much as I could, spread awareness. I wanted to tell my friends and family what happened and that this was a real thing. The only way we are going to eradicate this behavior is to put it out there and show this is happening.”

It didn’t take long for a customer to stand up for Maher and fight back at the man until Target employees surrounded him and forced him to leave. Target is well-known for its support of breastfeeding mothers. They consider their stores safe places for moms to feed publicly, or to use fitting rooms for feeding if they choose. [Read more here.]

Big Boobs don’t mean more milk

There is more than one reason why big boobs can be a curse and while breastfeeding can be one of them, dealing with comments of ignorant people just adds to an already difficult task. Much like the questions a pregnant mom gets while carrying, people will make their attempts at comedy and end up making extra creepy comments, assuming it is completely acceptable simply because you are breastfeeding and you have big boobs. Perfect logic there, right? …As if breastfeeding doesn’t get sexualized enough by much of society… This blog post shares some of the most common obnoxious things the well-endowed mamas have to put up with hearing.

[Research] Heart benefits for breastfeeding preemies

New research shows that breastfeeding premature babies, which are known to have abnormal heart issues, can lead to not only better functionality in the baby, but for the adult life later.

“The study shows that even in people whose premature birth has inevitably affected their development, breastfeeding may be able to improve heart development,” said Adam Lewandowski of Oxford University. Previous research indicates that the hearts of adults who were born preterm have smaller chambers, thicker walls and reduced function. The new research, published in Pediatrics this week, says those born early but exclusivel`y fed breast milk had symptoms that were considerably less than those fed only on formula milk.
